      Admissions consultation

      ADMISSIONS CONSULTATION

In accordance with Paragraph 1.42 of the School Admissions code 2014, the governors of City of London Academy (Southwark) wish to consult on our admissions arrangement for 2019/2020 and would welcome your views and/or comments.  Please note that the Guidance requires it to be sent to all interested parties.  We have obtained Guidance from Southwark and we have sent it to all required parties and placed an advertisement in a local newspaper (Southwark News) as a catch all for the sake of completeness, we are also copying this to you.

Summary of changes to Pre Sixth Form Admission arrangements for September 2019

A new category has been added to give priority to “Children of staff employed at the academy with at least two years’ continuous employment or where the academy reasonably considers a member of staff has been recruited for a position for which there is a demonstrable skills shortage”.

Experience has found that recruiting and retaining outstanding teachers and leaders is extremely difficult. School leaders introduce incentives to attract more applicants, allowing a greater chance for employing high quality teachers. We hope that by introducing this category, we will be able to retain high quality staff.

The wording of all the other priorities has not changed, move to the Sixth Form arrangements.

Summary of changes to Sixth Form Admission arrangements for September 2019

Two new categories have been added to give priority to:

      A) Students who are on roll at Compass School (currently Year 11) will automatically transfer to the Sixth Form if they meet the academic entry criteria published in the annual school Sixth Form Prospectus for the year of entry.

Compass School has applied to join the family of City of London Schools. Compass share the same ethos and values as the City of London Academy (Southwark) it would be a natural progression for Compass students currently in year 11, meeting the entry criteria as published on the year of entry to transfer to City of London Academy (Southwark) Sixth Form.

      B) Children of staff employed at the academy with at least two years’ continuous employment or where the academy reasonably considers a member of staff has been recruited for a position for which there is a demonstrable skills shortage.

Experience has found that recruiting and retaining outstanding teachers and leaders is extremely difficult. School leaders introduce incentives to attract more applicants, allowing a greater chance for employing high quality teachers. We hope that by introducing this category, we will be able to retain high quality staff.

The wording of all the other priorities has not changed.

The consultation period expires on 31st  January 2018, so please revert to us with any comments you may have prior to that date.

If you have any comments on the proposed changes to our admission arrangements, please send them to Miss Myra Swartz Vice Principal, mswartz@cityacademy.co.uk by Friday 26th January 2018 so that we can determine our arrangements.
