Made in Bermondsey is the name chosen for a £2m regeneration programme to revitalise the Blue, which was once Bermondsey’s historic town centre.
A community campaign led by Blue Bermondsey BID with local charities Community Opportunity and Big Local Works was successful in securing the £2m capital funding from the Mayor of London’s LEAP Good Growth Fund after forward-thinking staff at Southwark Council suggested a joint submission and helped to shape the application. Bede and Millwall For All are also members of the community steering group chosen to take this project forward.
Locally based Turner prize-winning collective Assemble and architects Hayatsu have been appointed to deliver the programme and are now consulting on the designs with all stakeholders before the final plans are decided. The works are set to begin in early 2020 and completed in March 2021. Where appropriate, local businesses will be engaged to provide services for the project, so it will truly be Made in Bermondsey.
