The Curriculum at the City of London Academy
 

 


The curriculum at the City of London Academy is innovative, especially in its use of ICT and Business and Enterprise. ICT is integrated across the whole curriculum along with the Academy’s specialism of Business & Enterprise. The Academy's second specialism, Sport , is also a significant across the curriculum.

The sponsorship of the City of London supports our curriculum with the contacts it provides for business involvement and mentoring.

The Academy Timetable

The Academy timetable is run over a ten day cycle and students in Year Seven are taught in their form groups by experienced subject specialists. The allocations of fortnightly teaching hours for each subject are as follows:

Art 3 B & E 2 Citizenship 1
Drama 2 English 8 Humanities 4
ICT 3 Maths 8 MFL 5
Music 3 PE 4 RS 2
Science 7 Technology 4    

This totally new school for 11-19 year olds currently has 910 Year 7 to 11 pupils on roll, and will eventually provide 1200 pupils from the Bermondsey area with high quality, state of the art facilities.

The school opened in temporary accommodation in September 2003, and occupied the fully finished permanent facilities in September 2005. The client brief called for the full range of teaching accommodation with all attendant support facilities. This included halls for dining and assembly, sports halls, dance and drama studios, and sufficient space for school support and administration.
