Curriculum - Business and Enterprise

Enterprise at the City of London academy is a new subject at Key Stage 3 and has been given one lesson per week over the key stage this equates to approximately 35 hours per year teaching of enterprise for every student.

At the City of London Academy we believe that everybody, regardless of other attributes and background has entrepreneurial sprit. It is the aim of Enterprise to allow students to explore this spirit, raise their capability in the characteristics that make potential entrepreneurs, and provide them with the lifelong skills that will be essential in the technology driven, rapidly changing economy of the early 21st century. This economy demands driven individuals who have a positive attitude to error, a can-do attitude, an inherent adaptability to change and excellent interpersonal skills.

The Business and Enterprise department will encourage these entrepreneurial skills with an interesting and varied curriculum which will cater for all, regardless of ability, ethnicity and gender. The curriculum will reflect the National initiatives that support enterprise education and reflect the characters of the students. Nobody is an entrepreneur until they start practicing enterprise, and the subject of Enterprise will reflect this. It will carry a highly practical aspect, with at least one ‘event’ per term that will give student the opportunity to put theory into practice.
