In
English lessons pupils develop their speaking, listening, reading and
writing skills. We aim to enable pupils to make careful, confident choices
about their use of language and to be analytical and critical about what
they hear and read.
Key Stage 3
During each half term pupils read a novel together as a
class. Throughout the year they also study plays and poems, including
works by Geoffrey Chaucer and William Shakespeare.

Pupils are also expected to keep up a wide range of
private reading.
Pupils’ creativity is encouraged through being taught
how to tell and write stories and poems. In addition they study elements
of the mass media.
