Dear Parent/Guardian, Christmas 2009 is now only a week away and I am sure that all of you are eager for the holiday, although it can be a very busy time of the year. The Autumn term is always a long one, and this year was no exception at fifteen weeks (next term is twelve weeks). This term is also when a lot is achieved: for year 11 students it involved getting GCSE coursework to a high standard and taking mock GCSE examinations; for Year 7 students it was settling into the school; and all other years had to come to terms with the higher standard of work needed in their new year group. It has been a productive term: attendance has been good, despite the widespread outbreak of flu, behaviour is good and students are willing to work hard to achieve their targets. I saw this at the wonderful Christmas concert where the orchestra, jazz band, choir, rock band, rap group and other singers performed superbly. It was also a pleasure to see the audience listen attentively and then show their great appreciation for the talented performances. The Academy has entered a new phase this school year. The school is now almost full and some of our previous small school systems are no longer appropriate. We have a new Year 7 curriculum, more BTEC courses at Key Stages 4 and 5 and we are looking at more changes for 2010 in all areas of the school, to help your children do even better. I have now been Principal of the Academy for more that six years and it has always been a privilege to work with you and your children. Have a wonderful Christmas, and we’ll see you on Tuesday 5th January. Martyn Coles, Principal
