Speed Interviewing a Hit at CoLA

Speed Interviewing a Hit at CoLA

The City of London Academy held their first 'Speed Interviewing' session for year 12 students. The activity was designed to prepare them for their up coming work experience placements and increase their confidence in speaking with new people, and as an Enterprise education activity, as this is one of the Academy's two specialisms. The session is designed for corporate employees from a range of career paths to use their personal and professional  journeys to assist young people who are at that challenging stage in their lives of deciding their next steps.

The main objective of the session is not only to give students information and tips but also to raise their aspirations, inspire and motivate them and provide facts on how to stay realistic about what hard work goes into making their goals possible.  Through meeting people who have successfully built their careers in a variety of different ways, we hope this will encourage the students to open their minds to new and exciting roles and think more broadly about the next steps they take.

The event was a huge success and as a result, CoLA plans to make this an annual part of the work related learning and enterprise curriculum offered to our Sixth Former students. Approximately 150 students participated in the event and the feedback was extremely positive. Students really enjoyed meeting volunteers and learning how to network- a vital skill for the future!

The City of London Academy is the only Investors in Careers accredited school in Southwark and has recently been reassessed and maintained this status, which is in part due to the fabulous and continued support of employers and volunteers, and the sponsors for events such as this. We now look forward to our Careers Careers on the 10th Mach and welcome any volunteers who wish to take part.
