| All cheques must be made payable to CITY OF
LONDON ACADEMY, not COLA. Thanks! |
| STUDENT
WELFARE OFFICER |
| Please remember that we do not have a nurse on
staff at the school. Our Student Welfare Officer can help with small
injuries and taking medicine, but she cannot diagnose medical
conditions. If you suspect that your child has a condition that
needs medical attention, please go to your doctor. |

UNIFORM – DRESSING APPROPRIATELY |
Some pupils have been
arriving at school wearing a variety of clothing and footwear which
is not approved school uniform. The Academy has a strict uniform
policy. Please remember that we only permit the following items to
be worn as part of our Academy uniform:
- Plain black outside coats. No leather or PVC
and no logos, badges, patterns or studs.
- Plain black shoes with low heels for girls.
Not trainers or leisure shoes of any colour or style.
- Plain black socks or tights for girls.
- Plain black dupattas (headscarves) or hairbands. No colours
or patterns please.
- Girls mid grey trousers or calf length
skirts. No dark grey or black.
- Plain metal ear-studs. No dangling earrings,
coloured stones or diamante. No false nails or makeup.
- Girls are permitted to wear the Academy
summer dress from the 1st May, weather permitting.
The remainder of the uniform is as stated on the
uniform list. Staff regularly check uniform, and unacceptable items
are confiscated and returned only to parents. We get many comments from visitors and the public praising the
smartness of our pupils in their uniforms. I am sure you are as keen
as I am to see this high standard of dress maintained both inside
and outside school.

| TAKING
HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME |
| I have become increasingly concerned about the
number of holidays taken in term time. Pupils are missing
significant periods of learning and affecting their achievement. I
know that some absences cannot be planned, but I am very concerned
if an absence is requested because “this is the only time we can
take the holiday”. Cost should not come before children’s education
and there are 14 weeks of school holiday each year.
Authorised absences (those where parents give a
reason and the school allows the absence) are higher at the Academy
than nationally. The Government has recommended that Head Teachers
do not give permission for absences during term-time, and are
calling for prosecutions and large fines for unauthorised absences.
The Academy is eager to work with parents over this issue, and I am
sure that together we can reduce the high absence level and make
sure that all pupils aim for 100% attendance.
