The City of London
City of London Academy Southwark is part of the City of London ‘Family of Schools’ which includes over twenty other schools across the private and state sector as well as many guilds and organisations. We are sponsored by the City of London Corporation, an elected body that looks after the business district around St Paul’s and the Square Mile.
Our relationship with the City supports our staff to access the best training and support to run the academy successfully. It also provides our students the very best experiences of the working world, from shadowing judges at the Old Bailey to work placements at business giants like Ipsos MORI – and even Buckingham Palace.
Examples of opportunities for our students include:
- Student President and Vice-President invitations to the Lord Mayor’s Banquet
- Participation in the Lord Mayor’s Show
- Internships at the Old Bailey working alongside senior judges
- Work experience at Buckingham Palace, the Guildhall Gallery and Royal Opera House
- Livery company bursaries of up to £1000 for pupils to pursue
- Oxbridge / Medicine / Dentistry and Veterinary pathways including a 10 month Oxbridge programme for our most high achieving Year 12 students, run in conjunction with the City of London Boys and City of London Girls private schools
- Inter-school opportunities including debating and chess competitions, orchestra productions and theatre visits.
A wide range of networking opportunities
The City experience also includes group activities, with field trips to the Museum of London and educational walks around the City. We aim to instil in every pupil an appreciation of the City, its values and cultures, and an understanding of its different professions and experiences. We want them to leave CoLA prepared for the demands and rigour of working life.
The connections our students make through these experiences are invaluable, frequently opening doors to career opportunities when they leave City of London Academy Southwark.
