KS4 Options 2023-2025

Welcome to KS4 Options 2023-25

In September 2023, your child will begin to study the courses that they will pursue until the end of Year 11. In preparation for this, your child will be required to make their GCSE Option choices.

As you know, the options process is an important phase in your child’s school life. Students, for the first time, will have an opportunity to choose subjects which will shape the remainder of their educational lives.  Fortunately, as a large secondary, we are able to offer a wide variety of courses, both academic and vocational.  Our aim is to provide courses that will provide students with a broad and balanced curriculum whilst still giving  each individual a degree of choice.

Options Introduction by Mr Baxter, Principal

Dear Parents/Carers

The options process is an exceptionally important phase in our students’ school life. Students, for the first time, will have an opportunity to influence their own destiny and choose subjects which will shape the remainder of their educational lives and possible career path.

We recognise that making these decisions, whilst thinking about further education and future career choices, can be difficult. The advice and guidance contained within this booklet and in future parent and student presentations will aid that decision process.

Please read through this booklet and talk to the relevant Course Leaders and Form Tutors, together with Ms Bateson and her team, if you have questions about any aspect of the process.

Please remember that all forms must be completed online by the deadline of Friday 10th March.

I wish all students success, whichever set of exciting challenges they choose for themselves.

Option Introduction by Ms Bateson – Head of Year 9

Dear Students,

Choosing which GCSE Options you will study at Key Stage 4 is the most important decision in your journey at secondary school. The subjects that you choose will influence the choices available to you in your life and should subsequently reflect the direction which you wish to take when you finish Year 11. Each choice should be focused on you: What are the subjects that your teachers have said you are achieving in? Which subjects would you be happy and successful studying? What is motivating you to choose that subject [i.e. not your friendship group]? Have you spoken to someone at home who knows you best and is able to advise you?

Your GCSE Options Form will be emailed to you on Wednesday 22nd February. This form must be completed online on or before Friday 10th March.

This process is a perfect opportunity for you to consider why school is important for you and how you could start to improve to build the habits for Year 10 and Year 11 that will enable you to be successful. Start attending school consistently and ensuring that you are on time. Start focusing on how you could maximise your achievement in lessons. Start increasing the number of Achievement Points that are added each week. The Year 9 Team has been continuously proud of your progress at this school and is happy to support and advise you. GOOD LUCK!
